Let's Pray...
I have long since canceled my cable as it was too expensive and we really don't need to be watching tv anyway. I do try to keep up with some of the news via the internet and I must say that the coverage of hurricane Sandy is breaking my heart. I am not sure why this disaster is affecting me so much, maybe it is the thought of it happening so close to the holidays, maybe because it is forecasted to do MAJOR damage. I don't know but for some reason, everytime I see a comment about it on facebook or elsewhere, it brings tears to my eyes. So, that being said, let's all please cover the people and towns affected in prayer.

It got me thinking...
I have recently began following a blog called "Made In USA Challenge".
It started when my husband and I watched an evening news program where incoming college students were given the challenge of buying their school supplies and dorm supplies from American companies. They all rose to the challenge and with the exception of a coffee maker and a TV, were able to stylishly and affordably complete the task.
It really made me think. I thought about all the people out of work. I thought about all the people affected by droughts, floods, and fires who would normally make their livings from farming, livestock, forestry, etc who were also either out of work or looking for more ways to supplement their incomes. I thought about the little towns in middle-America that have been virtually abandoned due to all these things.
So, I have found myself checking out these companies and have started to challenge myself as well. I am thinking about having a weekly or monthly feature where I give you some information about a company making/selling American made products that I have tried. I figure that it is the perfect time since Christmas is fast approaching. Nothing like the Made In USA Challenge blog (for way more super cool made in USA stuff, please visit them).
Here is their link again that will take you directly to her "About" page so you can learn about how she began the challenge and the blog:

A little about me
As you know from the pictures, I am a wife and mother. What you might not know is that I LOVE to sing! Morning, noon, and night. My favorite songs to sing are those that glorify God. I listen to our local Contemporary Christian radio station and pretty much know every word. I am a big fan of Hillsong since a lot of their songs are in a key that I can sing comfortably in...and let me tell you - I love to belt them out!
The reason I am telling you this is because God has been working in our lives through my singing. No, He did not make me a rock star - complete with a jacuzzi full of champagne and $100 bills and a steady check coming in from concert and record sales. But He did rock our world.
At the beginning of the summer, we were certain that we wanted to leave this area and move back towards where we came from. We have been wanting another child and felt it would be easier on everyone if we were closer to where we had more help and could see family more often. My husband searched for a job. He even went a little outside of his comfort zone looking for positions. Nobody was interested at the time. Now, I am not going to lie and say I was not just a little disappointed. I was a lot disappointed! I knew though, that God had something else in store for us and that it was going to be even better than what we thought we wanted and needed! That helped. It was not very long after we became resigned that we were staying put (and school started) that things began to change. One day, out of the blue, I decided I wanted to join a band. Yes. It sounded crazy to me too! I had never been in a band before. Sure, I have been doing praise and worship at my churches for many years but to join a band that plays shows around town...
Anyway, I went to an audition and knew right away that they were not the group for me. Then I went to another one and must say that I entered what must have been the "Twilight Zone." I have never met anyone quite like this person before. The reason I am telling you this is so that you know that I know there must be something better out there for me. And sure enough, there was! I finally found a folk group (right up my alley) and have been singing with them for the last couple months. What is even more exciting is that God gave me all those opportunities to grow and to become a better leader, have less stage fright and any number of things that are not even for me to know about.
While searching for more opportunities, I came across a post for a Contemporary Christian group looking for folks who wanted to play in more of a service related capacity. Here in Austin, we have something called "Church Under The Bridge" which is a ministry for the homeless of our city. That very same week I was asked if I wanted to go help lead music at another shelter in the area. Well, yes Lord! Send me!
The point of my story is this:
God does not always give us what we think we want or need. He DOES give us what He KNOWS will make us happy, healthy, etc...
Trust me when I say this - He knows better than us and wants to give us our hearts true desires. And He will!

We need a makeover around here...
I have entered a contest to have my blog made-over and that would be amazing as I have no idea what exactly I did when I made it. I just put things in places (technical, I know) and hit save!

It is almost time for me to get started on part 2 of our car story and I am not quite sure where to start. Scratch that...I do know where to start. In prayer. We pray before meals. We pray when we tuck our son in for bed. We pray for safety before we go somewhere. We all cry out to God when we are fearful, confused, or hurt. Even those who say they do not believe. I spend lots of time each day thanking the Lord for the blessings He provides for my family and sometimes just talking to Him. What I don't do enough of is just asking Him what He has in store for me. It might take some of the doubt, fear or confusion our of my day if I just took a minute before doing something to ask if I was on the right track.
Anyhow, here are a few of my favorite verses on praying:
James 5:13-15
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
Matthew 6:5-12"And when you pray, you are not to be as the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, in order to be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay you. "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. "Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him. "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 'Give us this day our daily bread. 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
John 14:13-14"And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
Philippians 4:6-7
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 21:22
" And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

The Year of the Dying Car AKA The Year I Learned to Listen to God Part I.
As promised, here is part one of our vehicular "dramady" that we were very much unwillingly cast in.
It all started...
Last year, just before Labor Day, I started noticing something "not quite right" with our car. I did my wifely duty - you know, the one where you try to imitate the car noise for your husband -and we decided there must be something wrong with the transmission. Now, we had just finished paying off the car after many months of stressing about too high payments.
Then in a matter of days...nothing. It died at a stoplight while my infant son and I were running errands. It was just dead. Flat lined. No hope of resuscitation. My first instinct was to freak out, and I did so exceptionally well. My second instinct was to call my husband at work and yell at him for allowing this to happen. I did that also, but not until later.
During all this absurdity, I was pleading with my Lord to keep us safe. I knew He was. He had already placed a police officer behind us - complete with flashing lights - to protect us, a parking lot for us to push the car, a kind mom to stand there and hold my son safely off the road, and He even provided a smoothie shop for us to have a snack and a cool, safe place to wait. The entire time, though, I was constantly worrying about the hows, whens and how muches. That's my job isn't it?
I certainly thought it was and took to the worrying with gusto, as if I was the only one who could fix this problem - even though I had absolutely no idea how. So after strapping the carseat in a tow truck and being dropped off at home I really let loose. I turned on my husband, God, the finance company who we just finished paying and of course, the car. Would we ever get a break? What made this situation all the more worse was that my husband and I had just started talking about trading the car in to get something that would fit our growing family. Who was going to take a broken down car now?
As I said before, our car issues have been going on for an entire year. I think that I could have cut that time down had I just gotten over myself and given it COMPLETELY TO GOD! That is what He wants. In fact, there are instructions for times like this right in the Bible. One of my favorite resources is a book called "The 100 Most Important Bible Verses" from W Publishing Group. One passage says:
"When life gets busy or chaotic, it's easy to get distracted. You wind up focusing on problems instead of the One who holds the answer to your problems in His hands. When that happens, stop. Focus on who God is and how much He loves you."
In the New King James Version, you can check out Psalm 46: 1-2, 10.
I sure felt a chunk of our life crumbling when that car died. How were we going to go grocery shopping or get to doctor appointments? My husband rides a motorcycle to work so he at least had transportation, but then my son and I would just be stuck at home. And make no mistake, I most certainly did not take my own advice and dive into God's Word like I should have. Rather, I spent a miserable several months praying for a solution, all the while trying to concoct one on my own. I was still trying to do it my way...

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea...

Mommy Blogger Scholarship Program
I just applied for the Mommy Blogger Scholarship Program so that I can learn more ways to bring the stories of Gods perfect provision to you!

The Beginning is Here!
Today is Monday. Today is the first day of school for my husband (a high school band director) and all the children in the area. Today is a day full of lunch packing, new friends and clothes, LOTS of papers to sign and return and let's not forget that it is a day where moms might just get to stop for a moment and take a breath.
This is also the day I have decided to start telling you the story of how God has pushed us, pulled us, and occasionally given us the "smack upside the head" during our car journey. He has been working in our lives to give us something (patience and mechanics skills maybe) and we have surely gained those things and much, much more.
Keep a eye out later this afternoon for part one of the story!

The prize is an autographed copy of "Unlikely Praise" by Carla Rossi. Also, stick around for my retelling of our vehiclular "dramady" that has taken place over the last year. God has been watching out for us in some mysterious and sometimes comedic ways!

What now?!?!
So...We have had nothing but car trouble for the last year. Seriously, the ENTIRE LAST YEAR! Transmissions going out, an accident, buying a car that we found out had no a/c (after we bought it), being without a vehicle and stuck at home with a toddler when it is 104 outside and we can't even play outside, motorcycles breaking down.............
(This is me taking a mental breath)
Well...We bought a new to us car last night after lots of prayer and deliberation and have such a sense of peace about it because we put it in the Lords hands. I did not get all nosy and demanding with Him. I let Him take care of it in HIS TIME and in HIS WAY! It was not for us to figure out.
And now...Today, there is no buyers remorse. There have even been three (yes three) opportunities for us to supplement our income which just gives us an even greater sense of peace! Amen and Praise the Lord!!!!!

Why Toothpaste From God?
You are probably wonderig how and why I came up with this name. It's simple really. I was out of toothpaste and out of money and when I went to check my mailbox that day there was toothpaste in there! The toothpaste came to be in my mailbox because I had signed up for a sample (I will be posting some of those here in the very near future) and God orchestrated the timing. It is just like the time we were once again just about out of money and a complete stranger showed up at our door with a gift and some giftcards to various stores. When I say stranger what I really mean is angel! :)
Now don't get the wrong impression here. Yes, I do believe that God will always provide for those who love Him and yes, sometimes it is in miraculous ways. Sometimes though, it is in the simple things that we do like sign up for free samples of toothpaste! :)
Please stick around as I will be having some pretty amazing things to share on here including free stuff, book reviews, music and much, much more!

Let's Try This Again, Shall We?
It all started.....
One day, several months ago, I decided to start blogging about how God was so good to my family. I stayed up late one night thinking about it and made my very first blog post. And then nothing. I did not tell anyone I started blogging and I did not advertise in any way. I was my only fan. I still am my only fan and that is only because my momma does not know about it! So, I am about ready to share with the world (or at least my momma) about how good God is! He will never let us down.

Who is this crazy broad?!?
I guess I should start by introducing myself. My name is Tiffany and I am a wife and the mother of one super toddler! My husband and I will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary this year and our son, Sebastian, is soon to be 15 month old. I have always been a church goer though I did have a small stretch in my 20's where I sort of tried to ignore my upbringing and faith in favor of what I though at the time was "fun". I am sure I can come up with more details but since I, in a fit of genius, decided to start a blog in the middle of the night, I am now too tired to think straight!
Well, hello!
There are really only two reasons that you would be reading this. One, you know that God is good and will always provide for those who love Him, or two, you accidentally hit the button for the next blog. Either way, welcome! As you have probably guessed, I am in the first category with a love and faith for the Lord that is a source of hope and strength through this crazy world!! My family has been blessed in so many ways that sometimes I just want to shout it from the rooftops. I am kind of afraid of heights so blogging in the next best thing!!
